The voice behind the stories

Meet Kara

Every story starts with a spark of imagination — and a deep belief that bedtime should feel like magic.

Kara, the voice and creator of Bedtime with Kara

How it all began

Bedtime with Kara started the way most great things do — with a child who wouldn't go to sleep. As a child,  Kara loved hearing stories about far away places and the animals who lived there that always ended with a yawn and a smile. At around 6 she started writing them too.

What began as a bedtime ritual became a calling. Kara realized that the stories she was telling — rooted in real places, real cultures, and real wonder — were doing something special. They weren't just putting kids to sleep. They were opening tiny windows to the world.

So she picked up a microphone, found a cozy corner of her home, and started recording. Bedtime with Kara was born.

What makes these stories different

Rooted in real places

Every story is set in a real location — a village in Japan, a savanna in Kenya, a snowy town in Norway. Kids fall asleep having traveled the world.

Narrated with love

Kara records every story herself, in a warm and soothing voice designed to calm even the most energetic little ones.

Beautiful illustrations

Each story comes with original illustrations and a downloadable coloring page — so the adventure continues the next morning.

Fresh every month

Every day, a new story is added and the oldest is deleted. So there's always something new to look forward to at bedtime.

The creative process

Each story begins with research. We dive into the culture, geography, and folklore of a place before a single word is written. We wants children to feel the texture of a location — the sounds, the smells, the rhythm of life there.

From there, we write a gentle narrative arc: a small problem, a curious journey, and a peaceful resolution. Nothing scary. Nothing rushed. Just the right amount of wonder to carry a child off to sleep.

Then comes recording — usually in the early morning, when the house is quiet. Kara reads each story several times until it feels just right. Warm. Unhurried. Like a hug in audio form.
